My cursor kept flashing at me as I attempted to write this piece. I contemplated because of my young family; since I recently got married and have a two year old daughter to protect from the outcome of my vista. This fear is exactly what I want to project hence my resolution to forge ahead.
Firstly let me say this; I don’t consider myself to be politically affiliated with any organisation; since I’ve lost trust in the party of my people and there seems to be no viable alternative, needless to say, I don’t have any membership card/s. I’m not looking for any convincing from spokesperson or PRO because my vote is an emotional one and goes to the party that resembles hope for my Child and our beautiful continent. I’m not a reporter or even a prolific writer but just an ordinary young black man who has a deep-seated concern for the direction of our country. I always make a conscious decision to vote because I understand that the outcome does not only affect us politically but also physically, financially...and to some extent spiritually. The impact is felt across Africa, since we form part of the leadership of the greater NEPAD, AU and SADC organizations which are necessary pillars for our continent.
The secrecy bill is the end of the world as we know it. It’s literally handing over this platform to the very people that can contaminate it. Media is a powerful voice and the government is counteracting to take control of the microphone/ megaphone that preaches truth to our ears. They want to do as they wish and massage us with watered down versions of what is. Agreeing to this bill will be detrimental as it opens room for further mal-administration of public assets and funds, with no accountability to the powers that be.
Who will put big wigs into account if they control the media? I’m not so concerned about the big cars they drive or the amounts of money they flaunt through riotous living and lavish lifestyles whilst the poor get even more poorer but my concern is more long term. I’m more concern about the superiority of public office, the core values that define our Government where-in they swear by Gods name to lead the country.
I want to know if Zuma is misusing public funds for his own personal gains, or if the supposed leader (Malema) of the youth is receiving ‘generous donations’ to influence tender allocations, or perhaps even the police commissioner harbouring hardcore criminals (mafia’s) for financial reasons. Health officials cannot get away with murder of unborn kids or the elderly.
We are heading towards a time when reporters will act as government spies instead of being objective sources to hold people that have been put into power accountable. They will either swop their degrees and diplomas (along with their integrity) with a comfortable lifestyle influenced by fear or perhaps quit their preferred roles to pursue other careers whilst some add to the brain drain that we have been experiencing.
If you let a child run free without any rules/ limits or control measures; they are bound to hurt themselves at somepoint; and usually realise the impact very late when not much can be done. Our country is like our child; we cannot let the nanny/ care-taker decide what’s best without informing or seeking direction from us.
I’m opposing the bill the fibre of people in public office affects the texture of our country and thus directly impacts the direction of my prayer.
I therefore urge all opposition denominations (not restricted to political) rise and fight the surge that aims to blind God’s nation. The only way to win is not to give up informing, educating and rallying the people to the truth in all media and community gatherings.
Let’s move forward and not take our country back to a regime; where Freedom of speech was none existent.
Trusting that this will spark a revolutionary flame of Justice
